Michael Burrows VIEW PROFILE

Michael R. Burrows passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife, Roberta (nee Olsta); his brother, Robert; his daughters, Vanessa and Cassie; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Mike was born in Chicago on Aug. 26, 1951, the son of the late Robert and Alice Burrows (nee Dieball). His parents later moved to Rolling Meadows and he attended Kimball Hill and Forest View High School. He graduated from Harper College and worked as a technician for Western Electric. Then the U.S. Army called, and from 1971 to 1973, Mike was a military police officer in the Panama Canal Zone. He married Roberta in 1976 and they lived in Rolling Meadows, Arlington Heights and Cary. He spent the majority of his life as a "phone man" for AT&T, driving his bucket truck and serving customers as a technician for over 38 years. He loved his family, his '79 Corvette, golf, poker and Chicago sports teams. He enjoyed walking his dogs, Teddy, Bailey, and Tulley and socializing with neighbors along the way. Mike was an instant friend to everyone he met. He had a huge personality that filled up any room. He loved to joke and tell stories with everyone, from the person at the check-out counter to scientists he met through his wife's international business travels. He was passionate, the life of the party, Mr. Fix-It, and a real guy's guy. Even though Mike's death was unexpected, he completed some of the items on his bucket list, including golfing in Scotland, driving a Ferrari in Italy, and catching a shark in Key West. The wake will be held from 12 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, at Willow Funeral Home, 1415 W. Algonquin Road, Algonquin, Ill. Memorials in his name may be directed to Veterans of Foreign Wars.
