Tom Winkleman was Don’s twin brother. When they were young, they came down with a severe fever and were hospitalized; while there, Tom’s temperature was not prevented from elevating, and he suffered brain damage as a result, and susceptible to epileptic seizures.

I remember Tom as an inspiration to me. He was a very pleasant guy, shy, but more importantly, he just kept working, never giving up. In freshman boys chorus, during any break time, he would pull out his somewhat remedial math book and just keep at it. Brother Don was a wrestler and had the same quality.

Some time after high school, Tom died in his sleep during a seizure.
