In Memory

Richard Meade

I created this site a lot of years ago, and hurt every time I have to post about another classmate gone. But I'll tell you that this one really hurt.

Following a long illness and hospitalization, Richard "Dick" Meade passed away this morning months shy of his 70th birthday. His wife Maggie (FVHS Class of '74 I think) has been good calling and texting to keep us posted on Dick's progress and having just spoken to her the day before, when she called at 4:55 my heart sunk.  Sadly, she confirmed what I already knew.

Dick and I were more acquaintances at Forest View, friendly but not really friends, but that changed about a year before our 40th class reunion when I put out a call for volunteers to help organize the reunion. Once we renewed our acquaintance, we realized that we had run parallel tracks after high school, both becoming pilots, living in the same apartment complex, though never running into each other, both working in law enforcement, Dick a dispatcher for Arlington Height PD, me as a Meadows officer (meaning we likely had spoken on the radio without ever knowing it), and finally moving to Texas just a couple years, and 90 miles, apart. Our wives became friends, we went on cruises together and during the healthy times, met for dinner every couple of months. We also planned two more reunions together, 45 and 50!

I will miss him tremendously, his wit and wry humor, his friendship, and our shared outlook on the world, taking nothing too seriously. Please join me in sending prayers and condolences to Maggie, son Richie, Aimee, and his newest pride and joy, first grandchild Declan (hope that spelling is correct), pictured recently with Dick.

Godspeed my friend...

It was an honor to reconnect with Dick and his wife at our 50th.  He had not changed one bit and remained the kind person I remembered him to be.  My sincere sympathies to his family.  Praying the memories he has left for his family and friends live on with smiles and gratitude.
