In Memory

Jan Wittrock

Jan Lee Wittrock of Rolling Meadows Jan Lee Wittrock, 60, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, Barrington. She was born Aug. 21, 1951, in Chicago. She had worked as an artist for many years. She was the daughter of Shirley and the late Jack Wittrock; sister of Joy (Chris) Herz; and aunt of Kyle and Kaila Herz. Visitation will be on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at the Community Church of Rolling Meadows, 2720 Kirchoff Road, Rolling Meadows. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Church of Rolling Meadows or Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois, 405 Lake Zurich Road, Barrington, IL 60010.

Personal note from Frank: It was a joy getting to know Jan, via phone, in the run-up to the reunion. She retained her artist's attitude and never embraced technology. She told me that not only did she not have a computer, she had never (ever?) had an e-mail and she was, in fact, calling me from a rotary dial phone from the house she had lived in most her life.

All I wanted in high school was to be a cool as Jan Wittrock. I'm sorry I never got to know her better.

Jan inspired me to draw better, but I never was as good at drawing as her. I did learn a really cool way how to print letters from her. Jan was a really sweet person. She is the one that got me to iron my hair to straighten it out. She had really super straight hair that looked really good.

Jan and I were both art majors, she would come in every morning complaining that she could not IRON her hair straight enough...too funny! And if you all remember she had the straightist hair around. She was a crack-up. I loved her work.  My memories of her are all good ones.
